VE Day 80
Chard Carnival proudly supported two special events honouring the spirit of VE Day and the sacrifice of those who served.
On May 8th, the town came together for a moving D-Day evening event, culminating in the lighting of the beacon—a powerful symbol of peace, remembrance, and unity. Residents gathered to reflect and pay their respects in a heartfelt display of community remembrance.
Sunday's VE Day celebration brought a more festive spirit to the town, with exhibitor stalls, classic military jeeps, live music, a traditional tea dance, and an energetic majorette performance. The atmosphere was one of pride, gratitude, and joy, as Chard honoured history while bringing people together.
